Is prune a kind of plum?
A prune is a dried plum.



Plums are sold in the produce section of a grocery store and prunes are in boxes, bags or jars in the section of the store that sells other dried fruit like raisins or apricots.



Prunes are dark purple-ish black and really quite good even though people joke they are for old people.

Reply:Yes. It is a special type of plum called a prune plum. It is difficult to distinguish by appearance, however it does not have the sweet taste of a regular plum like a Santa Rosa Plum. There is an old adage, "All prunes are plums, but all plums are not prunes."
