Are plum sauce and sweet and sour sauce the same thing?

I HAVE to know this. i have always hated sweet and sour sauce that you get at mcdonalds to dip mcnuggets in.



but i LOVE plum sauce that you dip egg rolls in, for example.



my friend says they are one and the same. IS THIS TRUE?!?!!

No, they are not the same.

Plum sauce is traditionally made from plums, but jarred plum sauce usually contains some pumpkin in it.

Sweet %26amp; sour sauce is made from pineapple bits, a lot of sugar and red food coloring.

anyway, plum sause is more of a purple/brownish color- sweet and sour sauce is more red-orangish. plum sauce is generally just sweet, while sweet and sour is sweet yet tangy.

Sweet and sour sauce is invariably some shade of red through pink and can come with chunks of pineapple in it.



Plum sauce is dark purply and tastes no where near as sweet.

They both have a tangy taste though, which might be why your friend thinks they're the same.
