My plum tree seems to be infected. How can I revive it at this time in the year?
You're not going to revive it but you can lessen the impact of the virus or fungus by cutting the infected branches out with a sharp clean pruning shears. Make your cuts cleanly an inch or two above the portion of the infected branch so that you are cutting healthy wood. To help stop the possible spread of the organism from branch to branch brush pure bleach on your pruners often and make sure you do that before using your tool in another tree. Other wise clean your tool and disinfect with something of your choice, I use bleach. Burn the infected branches as soon as possible and don't let them lay around spreading the virus or fungi whatever the case may be. Paint the bigger cuts especially if you have removed larger branches with your saw. Pine tar works as well but remains sticky and a little messy for quite a while. Some people might choose to paint copper sulfate on the wounds and around the infected parts of branches that were close to the diseased wood. If there is fruit forming now don't spray with anything as it will affect your fruit. Next spring spray with dormant oil and lime sulfur to help remove some of the problems in your fruit tree.
