There is a small hole in my garden about the size of a plum. Any ideas on what lives there?

If you have something eating your plants you can bet it's a vole!

If you're in SoCal, it's Voles, I have little holes all over my yard, the holes are about 2" across. (I saw one once when siting outside reading, he didn't know I was there...it was a cute little bugger, but geeze, all the holes they make!)
Reply:Probably: Mole, Vole, or snake. If there are long 'channels' of raised dirt leading to and/or from the hole, it is a mole or vole.
Reply:where do you live?

If in aus.

Prob a funnel web spider.

or a spider of some sort.
Reply:moles or voles. Most likely moles as they are true burrowers. Voles aren't. Chipmunks might set up house keeping if the moles have left..or mice. Watch out for bees, especially yellow jackets. They love abandoned mole holes.
Reply:could be a mole a snake or other insects..just close it off with a rock
Reply:I would say it's either a mole or a garden snake. My bet would be the mole!!
