What time of the year should I prune my plum tree ?

In the late fall (NOW) or early spring before the sap begins to rise.

What time of the year should I prune my plum tree ?
When the tree is fully dormant in jan or feb.
Reply:Are you pruning or just cutting off dead or damaged limbs?

If there is dead /damaged wood, prune anytime.

Otherwise, wait to prune (that is shaping the tree/thinning/modifying fruiting) until late winter/early spring. With fruit trees and fruiting ornamentals, prune before the flowers emerge. Don't prune during flowering and leaf out as that is the tree's weakest time. Trees operate on stored energy and it uses up a big bunch pushing out all those flowers and leaves. So prune before....but not when it is freezing cold outside. Or wait to prune until the tree is leafed out.....that's tougher as the leaves get in the way. Avoid pruning mid to late summer and fall.
Reply:now! Always prune in the fall
Reply:Fruit Trees

The best time to prune fruit trees is late February to early April. Fruit trees pruned in fall or early winter may be susceptible to winter injury.
