One small white worm grows inside every single plum in my plum tree. What is it ?
The white worms may be fruit maggots. You can really only control them by controlling the insects which they turn into. Here is one site which talks about controlling fuit maggots. - http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plant...
The little insects are almost certainly aphids. They can be controlled by spraying with a soapy solution. You can buy a product called "insectoidal soap" at most garden stores. It does pretty well in controlling aphids.
Good luck.
Reply:We have the problem of worms in our plum fruits.
We were told to spray the tree when it begins to bud, because
this is where the eggs are laid.
Haven't tried it yet.
Reply:Sounds to me like the worm in the plum could be coddling moth. The URL below describes the many problems plum are susceptible to and has a URL inside just for coddling moth. They require diligent effort to control. Others have commented on treatments for aphids.
You should start by contacting local Cooperative Extension/ Master Gardeners and taking them pictures or a sample. They can help you design a series of Integrated Pest Management treatments for your fruit trees.
Reply:The worm comes from a fly that lays an egg while pollinating the blossom. Check with your local extension service as to what type of insecticide you can use without harming your local honeybees. The other bugs are probably aphids, which can really become a problem. You can spray them with an insectcidal soap which won't harm the fruit. You should also control the ants with a granulated treatment in the dirt. Again call your county extenion service. It's free.
