Why are the leaves falling off my Prunus Cerasifera 'Nigra' (Purple Plum) Tree..?
If you are in England it is because it is so dam windy.

I suggest that you go to a hardware store and purchase what is called a deep root watering device.
You take your deep root watering rod and (hopefully you can find one with a small bottle on it for fertilzer and deep roo twater the tree. It may not be getting deep penitration of water to the roots, which can make the leaves fall off, because they don't have enough water to strenghten them on the branches.

Reply:Hmmm, what do the leaves look like? Are they shrivelled, or still green and plump looking? Might be a pest/disease (unlikely), or maybe it's had drought stress (difficult to believe today, I know).
Alternatively, has there been any groundworks in the tree's vicinity, or spraying of any sorts? Sorry I can't help more, but without a look at it (or at least a look at one of the leaves), it's difficult to pin it down. There's some ideas, though.
Reply:look on the website about this tree, it may tell you, when to prune, and what diseases its prone too
