How did Rutherford's alpha-scattering experiment show dat Thompson's plum pudding model of da atom was wrong?
The observation that the alpha particles could be deflected when they approached the nucleus indicated that all of the atom's mass had to be concentrated at a single point that we now call the nucleus. Thompson thought that the mass of the atom was distributed throughout the whole atomic volume; in other words ... no nucleus.
