What evidence was there for the plum pudding model of the atom?

It was formulated before any evidence was available to point toward any different model. It was mostly an extrapolation of the homogeneity of matter that we observe on a larger scale.

What evidence was there for the plum pudding model of the atom?
None - it was just a starting point, a guess. They knew that it was probably going to be disproved sooner or later. You have to start somewhere ....
Reply:Only the knowledge that the atom contains protons and electrons (and neutrons). The model was a speculative theory which collapsed when they bombarded an atom with alpha particles, the scattering of which showed that most of the atom is empty space.
Reply:To which particular atom are you referring?
Reply:well they knew that the atom was nutrall and that it had at least 2 diferent things in it (protons and electrons) so they just said "well it must be a ball then".
