Just what is or was a Sugar Plum?

As in The Sugar Plum Fairy.

Just what is or was a Sugar Plum?
Although there are various recipes, sugar plums have always been a combination of available fruits, nuts and honey and/or raw sugar.
Reply:Does exactly what is Say's on the tin matey.

It was a plum covered in sugar.

Back in days of old, before they had proper sweets all you had was fruit.

Plums picked to early are quite bitter so they were dipped in sugar to sweeten them up.
Reply:A sugar plum is a piece of candy that is made of sugar and shaped in a small round or oval shape.

Sugar plums are widely associated with Christmas, through cultural phenomena such as the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, as well as the line "Visions of sugar plums danced in their heads," from "A Visit from St. Nicholas," better known as "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
