When was it first recorded that the typical christmas meal had these on the menu?
(For UK) When did Turkey and Plum Pudding become associated with Christmas?
The 'plum' in plum pudding does not refer to the fruit. Plum pudding dates back to the Middle Ages, and contained flour, suet, raisins, nuts and various spices with sugar. The ingredients were tied in a cloth and boiled until the ingredients were 'plum' - that is they had swelled up to fill the cloth wrapping tightly.
I also found this interesting article. Doesn't quite answer all of your questions though.

Reply:Alas no I don't have it here =( Report It
Reply:"Henry VIII was the first English king to enjoy turkey, although Edward VII made eating turkey fashionable at Christmas. Indeed turkey was a luxury right up until the 1950's when refrigerators became commonplace." They used to eat goose more often. Personally I shall be enjoying a vegan Christmas.
Reply:Have no idea but i cant stand Turkey or Plum Pudding...looks like its going to be bangers and mash for me on Christmas day!!
Good luck in finding an answer to your question though!
Reply:They are both crap.!!!
