Im trying to identify a tree i saw recently?

i am in wisconsin and the leaves of this tree are now a rich red. overall it looks to me like a plum or pear tree, but i dont remember seeing any fruit on it. the leaves are heartshaped, hearty and glossy. several of them are planted in this quite new neighborhood so obviously its a tree that landscapers like to use. do you know what it could be?

Sounds like a Bradford Pear. Very coomon landscaping tree. They're one of the first trees to get their leaves and they have pretty flowers in the spring. They have very little to no fruit.



However, they do require maintainence. They tend to be brittle, and the wide, full, leafy branches hold a lot of snow and catch a lot of wind. The branches tend to break near the trunk, so expect to lose a lot of big branches. This won't be a problem if you have them professionally trimmed every few years.

Reply:Alot of landscapers now use American Basswood aka american linden. The tree has beautiful white flowers in the spring and the leaves are heartshaped as you describe. Oaks and maples do not have heart shaped leaves. There is also an ornamental pear that many landscapers are now using.
