Plum Tree Help?
You know that they will be ready when they turn a purple-black sort of color. When you press them they should be for the most part firm, but a little soft. It also depends on the tree, when you think they are ripe, try one and if it doesn't taste good wait a little longer. Also, if you want big plums, look at the tree and if there are many little plums on one branch, thin it out and pull some off. Good luck, I hope you get good plums.
Reply:when the squirrels start robbing them off the tree, they're ready...!!....
Reply:Plums can be ripe when they are colored green, yellow, red, purple or black. It really depends on what kind of plum they are. Some yellow plums are ripe when they aren't all that much bigger than a cherry. Prune plums will fill your palm when they are ripe.
Ripe plums are squidgy-firm, and smell sweet and (well...) plummy. If it looks anything like what a supermarket sells, it is *still unripe*. Try to find a local farmers market, and lurk around each week a few minutes until you see plums for sale in your area.
(Almond and apricot trees can sometimes look like plum trees, so unless you've been told that's what it is, or until the fruit starts maturing so you can tell for sure, it may not even be a plum)
Reply:depends on the plum on how big they will get. They will change colors and be soft.
