Starting a plum stone into growth is fairly easy.

Lightly cracking the case,so the kernel is exposed, then suspending the stone in water on a well lit windowsill. When a shoot appears, transfer to a small pot of J.I or similar compost and it should grow away.

Plum trees need a lot of space and are normally grafted onto a dwarfing rootstock.Problems can arise because some varieties are not self fertile and need another plum to act as a pollinator.

If your neighbours trees sucker, try and obtain one-it's quicker and easier than growing from seed.
