You don't say where you are located, but if you are anywhere near me, where we had unseasonably warm weather in late March, which caused all kinds of trees for push out leaves and flowers early, followed by a killer freeze in April, freakish in that it lasted a week, rather than I night or two...
...then the reason you don't have plums is because the late freeze killed the flowers on your plum tree. Either after they opened, or when they were still in bud.
Killed flowers = no fruit.
I am not getting plums this year either. Or pears. Or cherries. Bummer. Good news is - the health of the tree is not affected, and it will be fine. Wait until next year. And be glad you're not a commercial grower. There are millions of dollars in lost crop in peaches plums and other tree fruits this year because of that freaky weather.
My plum tree hasn't got many fruit this year, why? Last year it was full of fruit.?
your plum tree is fine. it is quite usual for top fruit trees to be bienial fruiting.one year a heavy crop the next year a light crop. this ensures the plant does not weaken itself by continualy bearing a heavy crop.
top fruit are apples pears plums gauges ect.
Reply:To get plums, you need more than one tree to cross-pollinate. Perhaps you have a neighbour who has cut theirs down.
Reply:my plum tree had loads of plum this yr ..looks like the wind has blown alot off ..also the birds will eat the unriped fruit..also sum yrs u dont get many other yrs the plums hang like bunches of grapes
Reply:I am having the same problem with my plum tree too this year.
I thought it was something I did. Now i know better
Reply:Plum trees only fruit really well about every two years, give it a good feed at the begining of next year and you should be ok
Reply:Here in NE Ohio, we had 80 degree temps in early April followed by a couple of nights in the low 20's two days later. It affected a lot of trees. This weather was fairly widespread in the eastern US. This may be the problem.
