Have you ever been Plum tickled to death?

It is a saying my grandad used to say...I would ask something like,

I like your hat grandad

he would reply

If you like it, then I am plum tickled to death!

or

Would you like a beer?

That'd plum tickle me to death..

So here I sit, years after his passing...wondering...

Have you ever been Plum tickled to death?
plum = dark purple

plum tickled = pleased (red cheeks and a smile)

plum tickled to death = used in a phrase nothig else..sort of like i love him/her to death
