Plum tree?

I want to grow a plum tree, a small one as my garden is'nt that big. What would you reccommend? Can they be grown in a pot? Any tips on how to look after it well, Thanks. x UK Birmingham.

Plum tree?
Yes you can grow plums in a pot providing the pot is large enough and you care for it properly.

The size of the tree will be determined by the rootstock that it has been grafted on.

Contact this company who offer a wide range of trees on different rootstocks. They will be able to give you knowledgeable advice and supply the plants by mail order.

Reply:I have a dwarf self fertile Victoria plum and have a very small garden near Shrewsbury.

It has been in my garden for 10 years and is only 8 ft tall, with a small amount of pruning i get a lot of plums each year.
Reply:Hi,if your going to grow a plum tree keep it in a pot. They have a habit of producing loads of trees.I know we had to dig a pile out.Good Luck
Reply:I have 2 .One is a Victoria and the other Tzar (black) During the autumn/winter I cut back the summer growth so the trees never really get much bigger.I didn't cut any growth off until the trees were about 4 years old. They have loads of fruit every year. You might need to spray for aphids during Jan and Feb before the blossoms appear.
Reply:No, you can't have it grow in a pot. It just wouldn't fit!!! The average size of a plum tree is about 6'5'' so judge yourself!
Reply:water, sunshine and dirt - it should grow
Reply:Go to a plant nursery and ask for dwarf tree or miniature tree, also request info on potted trees.

There are nursery that specialise in mail order and on line sells also. So look them up on line, phone book,---, ask a neighbour if new to the area. As a rule you will need 2 trees, unless there are a few in the area, or it is self pollinating variety.
