Can i steam plum pudding in canning jars for 4hs without lids?

making very old family recipe of pum pudding! The one with suet! Instead of using coffee cans to steam for 4 hours caI use canning jars without the lid?

You probably could, as I guess the canning jars would stand the heat -I could not grant it, though- but I am pretty sure that if you steam any pudding uncovered it will get soggy; the steam will get inside spoiling it. I would not recommend the procedure.
