My Italian plum was about 3 years old when I planted it 4 years ago and apparently it is the kind that does not need another tree for fertilization (although I planted another one 2 years ago just in case). I get lots of blossoms, it looks healthy, but no plums. I know there must be enough bees because the cherry tree does quite well. I live on Vancouver Island. Any ideas ?
My plum tree ( on Van. Island) has no plums ?
I don't know the answer, but I'm on Vancouver Island, too. Hi neighbour!
Reply:It may not be old enough to bloom yet! have patience, it will bloom in time. It needs to get some size to it first. Hopefully you are not pruning it, except for dead wood. Prune plums resent pruning, and like to be left alone rather than "shaped". They are not very forgiving about pruning, especially when older.
Know that Italian Prune plums cycle every other year like apples do; a heavy fruiting yield followed by a light yield the next year.
