Ok so i have some tomatoes plum and round not on vine now with the salmonella outbreak do you think if i cook?
On the news where I live, they said that the problem came from UNDERCOOKED tomatoes, so just make sure they are cooked thoroughly and you will be fine. That's pretty much how it works with any microbe, really. Boil the hell out of it and 9 times outta 10, you're safe.
Reply:Plum and Cherry tomatoes were still ok as of yesterday from what I read. However, cooking will kill any bugs that may be on there. Just make sure they reach the proper temperature - I think its around 135 degrees or something like that. You can look that up to be sure. Then it will be fine :-).
Reply:I think you shouldn't risk it and not cook with them. I'd rather go and buy some vine tomatoes. I was about to do the same thing but when I went to the grocery store (where I had bought them) they had removed the plum and the round so I bought some of the vine ones.
Reply:Yes, salmonella is killed by heat/cooking it. And they are only warning you not to eat the tomatoes raw until they make sure they are all safe.
Reply:its not "bugs" its salmonella, and on the news they said plum is bad and anything you dont have on the vine is bad
Reply:Just eat them, it'll be fine!!
