I'm hoping to make some plum puree for my baby but I'm making a lot of mess getting the skin off! Any suggestions please?
Can anyone suggest the best way to peel plums?
Hi
I used to do this for my children, they loved it.
Drop the plum in a cup of hot water, leave for a minute then as soon as you take it out pierce with a sharp knife and the skin should peel off easily.
Hope this helps
Reply:I would score the skin as if I were going to quarter the plum. Dip it in warm water and then cool water to help loosen the skin before peeling the plum.
Reply:Try doing the same as you would with a tomato... freeze them and then gently rub the skin under warm water. It should come off in really easily.
Reply:with your hands?
Reply:Plums can be peeled easily by dropping them in boiling water for around 30 seconds and then immediately chilled in ice water. The skin of the plums will slip off like those of peaches or tomatoes done in a similar fashion
Reply:gently hum on them
Reply:Drop a plum in a pot of boiling water. Boil for 30 seconds. Remove immediately and drop into a bowl of ice-water to stop the cooking. The skin should come right off.
Reply:Blanching them like tomato's will probably work. Put them in a colander and pour boiling water over them slowly. Wait a couple of minutes and peel. You might want to test one before you try all of them.
Reply:lick them and hope the skin comes off
Reply:score the skins of the plums and then pop them into boiling water for an min, then take them out and put into cold water. The skins will be easy to peal off with your fingers.
Reply:Get someone else to peel them!
Reply:I'd try to blanch them - that works really well. Drop them into boiling water for about 10-30 seconds and then plunge them into ice water - the peel should slip right off. That's how we used to do it when we made plum preserves.
Reply:put them in boiling water and the skins will peel off.. you can do the same with tomatoe.. i cant remember what the process is called though.. blanching maybe
Reply:Dunk them in boiling water for about 20 seconds. You should be able to slip the skin right off after they cool enough to handle them.
Reply:You can let throw them (not literally) into boiling water until the skins look like they have "burst"...strain them out, let them cool a bit, and you should be able to peel the skin off fairly easily.
Reply:u don,t need to peel plums...
Reply:boil them in hot water, then they'll be naturally peeled:P you don't even have to try! ;-)
Reply:boil it in a pan of water it makes the plum go soft. id say boil 4 about 10 to 15 mins then u can gently peel the skin of then mush the plum up 4 baby food, i wud cut the plum in half first. i done all my babies food like that, u can even peel an apple cut into pieces and boil that with a pinch of sugar to take the bitterness out of the apple, then wen that is soft mush it up. my kids loved it. im a mother of 4 never believed in tinned baby food, fresh food is best. hope this is useful to u. good luck!
Reply:When I need to peel tomatoes for making brushetta, I put the tomatoes in boiling water for about 30 seconds, then I remove them from the boiling water and put them into a bowl of ice water immediately for about 30 seconds and the skins come off pretty easily that way.
