Is there a difference between chopped plum tomatoes and diced?

Only the size of the pieces.

Is there a difference between chopped plum tomatoes and diced?
diced implies evenly cut into Cubes

Chopped, means you closed your eyes and hacked away.

Taste wise, probably not., but tey look different
Reply:Chopped tomatoes are cut much finer than diced tomatoes. Chopped can be used for making sauce without additional chopping. Adding diced tomatoes to the chopped with make for a chunkier sauce. (Never use fresh tomatoes to make tomato sauce, its not as good.)
Reply:Chopped is larger, and not very uniform in size typically.

Diced is smaller and more uniform. Diced also typically implies a cube shape when done.

Most recipes it won't make much difference except personal preference. However, if you're making a stew or sauce, you will need to consider this. Diced will make a less chunky sauce and are more likely too "cook down" further, where chopped will give you a chunkier, more rustic finish.
Reply:Chopped is usually larger, diced is finer and more uniform. It really wont make a difference in your recipe.
Reply:Chopped is probably bigger pieces. Diced means in little squares. It's just prettier. No difference in taste - just presentation.

  • I have a young plum tree in my front yard and the birds have eaten all the leaves, Will it live?

i want to say that it wasnt just the birds.being newly planted your plum tree experience shock.also make sure the rootball is not below ground level.you should not have a problem next season.try tipping the tree for now and feeding with some manure and compost.stay organic.tipping is when you cut the tips, down to the next bud, off the branches to promote growth.try not to scrape against when mowing or weedwacking.you could damage the trunk.if not done already, make a circle around the tree with a flat shovel or edger about 4-6 inches deep.remove sod/grass and fill with mulch.good luck

I have a young plum tree in my front yard and the birds have eaten all the leaves, Will it live?
As long as there are some bud spots yes. However you might consider putting an alarm like one of the owls that frighten birds away. Or create a feeder area on the completely opposite part of your yard.
    Reply:I like young plum trees!!!

Don't worry, it is not firewood yet if the birds ate them. However, if the leaves fell off on their own, call the lumber jack.
Reply:Plum leaves are not normally big on the bird menu. You must have some pretty desperate birds.

The tree should be ok without its leaves, if you keep it watered through the rest of the summer...it will make more leaves quickly. Defoliation is a pretty common thing for plums and apples during the hot summer months in our good ol' Zone 5. They're not going to fruit well without leaves, but I'm guessing you don't have fruits on this tree anyway, right?

The next thing is to be absolutely sure that it's birds eating leaves, and not birds eating caterpillars or other insects which are eating the leaves. The second scenario, in my experience, is more likely than the first.
Reply:Your plum tree may make it but a course the plums will not unless you get rid of the birds by putting a net around the plant....i also have heard if you use like red Christmas ornaments on the tree, the birds would hit it and learn no food will come out of it. But no promises
Reply:You will have to wait until the start of the next growing season to find out. Mature trees have a much better chance of surviving the loss of leaves.

I haven't heard anything bad, and nothing exceptional about the phone. It looks hot, its small, and its main features are its multiple messenging clients that are preinstalled.

Tmobile is giving it awway for free with a new subscription if you sign up online. It looks cool, definitely sleek, small and functional. Good luck!

I definitely recommend this phone. I am a T-Mobile employee and personally have found fewer times that I have had to replace this phone for manufacturer defects when compared with a lot of the other fons we sell. (Motorola/Nokia). Plus the fon is MyFaves capable which can allow you to go with the unlimited calling to your 5 favorite people unlimited plans (MyFaves) should you decide to go that route in the future as well. Hope this helps!

    SUPERB ENGLISH PLUM PUDDING

This pudding is really best when made a year in advance and allowed to mellow. It was customary to make it early in Advent — the religious season before Christmas — and use it the following year. Everyone in the family was supposed to stir the pudding once for good luck. If you can't make it the year before, at least give it a few weeks to age.

Fruit Mixture (To be made 4 days ahead)

    1 pound seedless raisins

    1 pound sultana raisins

    1/2 pound currants

    1 cup thinly sliced citron

    1 cup chopped candied peel

    1 teaspoon cinnamon

    1/2 teaspoon mace

    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

    1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

    1/4 teaspoon allspice

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 pound finely chopped suet - powdery fine

    1 1/4 cups cognac

    Pudding

1 1/4 pounds (approximately) fresh bread crumbs

    1 cup scalded milk

    1 cup sherry or port

    12 eggs, well beaten

    1 cup sugar

    1 teaspoon salt

    Cognac

Blend the fruits, citron, peel, spices and suet and place in a bowl or jar. Add 1/4 cup cognac, cover tightly and refrigerate for 4 days, adding 1/4 cup cognac each day.

Soak the bread crumbs in milk and sherry or port. Combine the well-beaten eggs and sugar. Blend with the fruit mixture. Add salt and mix thoroughly. Put the pudding in buttered bowls or tins, filling them about 2/3 full. Cover with foil and tie it firmly. Steam for 6-7 hours. Uncover and place in a 250°F. oven for 30 minutes. Add a dash of cognac to each pudding, cover with foil and keep in a cool place.

To use, steam again for 2-3 hours and unmold. Sprinkle with sugar; add heated cognac. Ignite and bring to the table. Serve with hard sauce or cognac sauce.

    Each pudding serves 12.

Reply:Perhaps the bridesmaids' bouquets in a white/ivory/cream colored flowers, like roses or calla lillies, with the stems wrapped in dark purple ribbon with pearls. then the bridal bouquet can be the cream colored flowers, highlighted by those really dark calla lillies, i think they are technically an ultra dark wine/red color but they look like a really rich dark purple, almost black. you can do the same alternated trend with the guys if you like. for example, have the groomsmen wear ties that match bridesmaid dresses with a single white calla lilly boutineer, and the groom in an ivoryish tie and a boutineer of a single dark calla lily (or reversed).

you could also throw in some gold as an accent
Reply:What about orange flowers? That would really pop off the dark.
Reply:It would be pretty to just do different shades of purple, like this bouquet:

If you want something brighter go for orange in it, like birds of paradise! That would be dramatic and very pretty.
Reply:My girls dresses are eggplant and they are going to carry Picasso Calla lillies, which are cream colored with deep purple centers, and ivory roses. My bouquet will be the colorful one with different shades of purple, mauve, and some very deep red as an accent. I think it is going to look great and it is something different from what I have seen lately where the brides bouquet is cream and the bridesmaids bouquets are really colorful.
Reply:for a dramatic look, I think a one-color bouquet would look nice. I think cream colored flowers would be the most elegant. or for a modern look, maybe light blue or light green (like hydrangeas). wrap the stems in dark purple ribbon.
Reply:I think light pinks would be nice
Reply:Cream or champagne would be very elegant looking with the plum. Since you don't like pink, what about a deep mauve incorporated with the cream, or deep purple status for the dramatic contrast.

It would also depend when you are getting married. I would go with seasonal flowers to stay within your budget.
Reply:I did a wedding last August where the b'maid dresses were a dark purple and we used purples, reds, %26amp; yellows in their bouquets. It was very pretty! Yellow by itself is a good choice too, b/c it is on the exact opposite side of the color wheel from purple. Therefore, it is the perfect contrasting color. Be careful not to use too dark a bouquet choice, though or they will not be seen well against the dark dresses.

It would be much easier to have a neutral wall coloring, this way you can mix in a variety of colors %26amp; patterns in your furniture %26amp; still have it all match.

You should pick the color that is timeless. Make sure that you choose the color you won't get tired of. Personally I would

Can you prune a 10' sparse, spindly purple leaf plum bush back to about 4'?

bush is about 8-9 years old - is very leggy

Can you prune a 10' sparse, spindly purple leaf plum bush back to about 4'?
    In a word . . . No

if you want to try and prune out a third or so at a time over a 3 year period to lower it that way-it will probably work.

That is if you are speaking about the "purple sandcherry"/"purple leaf plum"

btw: it is not a "bush" it is a tree. the smallest variety I know of is-

Prunus x cistena which gorws to 7ft high by 7ft wide.

    Most homeowners buy

    prunus cerasifera 20 x 20, or Prunus x newport 15 x 15

Reply:I just want to agree, no. My arborist boyfriend says a tree can handle about a 25% reduction, and that's it. When you do prune, be sure to do it properly. When is the time to prune Victoria plum trees?

In April time, thinning the branches then will help to stop the tree overproducing plums, ironic I know but especially in a good year when frost doesn't damage the blossom there is a real danger the branches will break later with the weight of the crop. It also allows the light into the tree which helps the fruit to ripen. If you prune later, or the branches break, there is a danger of 'silver leaf' disease entering the cuts or broken edges. Sometimes you will find the developing plums have a mummified appearance or brown rot with a spotty sort of pimply eruption on the surface, you need to pick these diseased fruits off otherwise the damage spreads to all the nearby fruit. Pruning at the correct time also helps to keep a more regular year by year crop because if a tree overdoes it and fruits really well in one year it might take a rest from fruiting the next one or two years. The same principle applies to damsons and greengages.

Edit 1. As in most things there are different opinions, having since checked on various web sites my thoughts mirror those practised by a place called Cam Valley Orchards, Meldreth, Cambs. a commercial plum grower and since he needs to make a living out of his trees, if its good enough for him its good enogh for me. Apparently he grows a lot of victoria plums. He also advises actually thining the fruit itself as it developes to ensure a disease free and better, healthier crop.Apparently, because silver leaf spores thrive in the damp and high humidity, if you wouldn't put your washing out because its wet, humidy or rain is expected, don't prune, If its a dry, blustry day and your washing will be ok then its usually ok to prune.

When is the time to prune Victoria plum trees?
Established trees need to be pruned in June.

Reply:As a rule of thumb it's pips in the winter, (apples and pears) and stones in the summer (plums and cherries).

Reply:anytime except when they are bearing fruit.
Reply:In the Springtime when the sap is rising.
Reply:Mid winter when the tree is dormant. Cut back long branches by a third and open out the grown of the tree. This will allow light in and air to circulate so there is less chance of silver leaf. This is a fungal disease of plum trees which the Victoria variety is very susceptible to.

    Plum confit

    50g butter

    2 plums (de-stoned and segmented)

1 large green apple (granny smith or golden delicious, core removed and segmented)

    1 large red onion (sliced)

    1 cup dry apple cider

    1 cup apple cider vinegar

    1 star anise

    half a teaspoon ground cloves

    1 tablespoon brown sugar

This will take about 45 minutes to an hour, but it can be made in advance if this is easier for you. In a large saucepan, over high heat, melt the butter and add the onion, apple and plums. After browning the fruits and onion slightly (about two to five minutes), add the remaining ingredients, reduce the heat to a low simmer and leave for 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally. Make sure the confit does not boil dry or burn. Once completed, remove the star anise and set aside.

Reply:Crispy-skin duck with blood plum sauce

Serves 6-8 (as part of banquet)

    Preparation time overnight

Cooking time 1 to 2 hours

    Ingredients

    ? tbsp Sichuan pepper

    1? tbsp salt

    1 x 1.5kg/3lb duck

    35g/1?oz plain (all-purpose) flour

    vegetable oil, for deep-frying

    For the blood plum sauce

    250ml/8?fl oz water

    225g/8oz white sugar

250g/8oz ripe blood plums (about 4), cut in ?; substitute 2 oranges if you can't get blood plums

    165ml/5?fl oz fish sauce

    6 whole star anise

    2 cinnamon quills

    85ml/3fl oz lime juice

    Method

    1. Dry-roast the Sichuan peppercorns with the salt in a heavy-based pan until they begin to 'pop' and become aromatic. Allow to cool, then grind to a powder with a pestle and mortar or spice grinder.

    2. Meanwhile, rinse duck under cold water. Trim away excess fat from inside and outside the cavity, but keep neck, parson's nose and winglets intact. Pat dry and rub the skin all over with the Sichuan pepper and salt mixture. Cover duck and place in refrigerator overnight to marinate.

    3. Transfer duck to a large steamer basket. Place basket over a pan of boiling water and steam, covered with a tight-fitting lid, for about 1? hours, or until the duck is cooked through (to test, insert a small knife between leg and breast - the juices should run clear). Using tongs, gently remove duck from steamer and place on a tray, breast-side up, to drain. Allow to cool slightly, then transfer to refrigerator to cool further.

    4. Meanwhile, make the plum sauce. Combine water and sugar in a small pan and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about five minutes, or until slightly reduced. Add plums, fish sauce and spices and simmer for a further minute. Stir through lime juice and remove pan from stove. Keep the sauce warm while you fry the duck.

    5. Place cooled duck breast-side up on a chopping board and, using a large knife or cleaver, cut duck in half lengthways through breastbone and backbone. Carefully ease meat away from carcass, leaving thighs, legs and wings intact. Lightly toss duck halves in flour to coat, shaking off any excess. Heat vegetable oil in a hot wok until the surface seems to shimmer slightly. Deep-fry duck halves, one at a time, for about three minutes, or until well browned and crispy. Using tongs, carefully remove duck from oil and drain well on kitchen paper, then leave to rest in a warm place for five minutes.

    6. Finally, with a large knife or cleaver, slice the duck, arrange on a platter and spoon over the hot plum sauce.

Well assuming that you hair is naturally a very dark brown probably close to black (level 1 or 2), it won't look like you dyed it at all except for in sunlight or bright light ...where your hair will look a very deep reddish purple....which sounds pretty nice for the autumn season

The hair dye you're planning on using is a level 4 shade and since you're buying it in the box kit, the developer that is mixed with the hair color is not going to be strong enough to get your hair the shade on the box. Honestly those hair dyes are meant for people that are only going no more than 2 levels lighter...if they're going darker it really doesn't matter.

If you really want to get your hair that color you'll have to make a trip to be beauty supply store or the salon.

Here's a chart with the haircolor levels:

    http://www.style-hair-magazine.com/image...

To answer your question about permanent hair color, it's meant to stay in for more than 24 shampoos or more...they do fade out depending on your hair condition and how you take care of it but, they don't fade back to your natural haircolor.
Reply:it looks really nice as highlights though only if its long if your hair is short like shoulder then it will look bad
Reply:Use Microsoft Paint (it comes with Windows) on a picture of yourself with your hair changed to the color you think it will turn out. There are even better, but costly probgrams that can do that. Some programs even let you change hairstyles.
Reply:I think it would bring out the deep reds in your skintone, that would be really good.

It stays on until you wash it off. :]

Now about the German Plum Cake, here's a good recipe :)

    Ingredients

    Dough

    4 cups all-purpose wheat flour

1 ounce baker's yeast, see note

    4 tablespoons sugar

    1 cup milk

1/3 cup butter, unsalted and melted

    1 egg

    1 pinch salt

    Filling

3 1/2 lbs damson plums, see note

    Topping

    4 tablespoons sugar

    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    Directions

1 Sift flour into a large bowl and make a well in the middle.

2 Crumble yeast into well and mix it with 1 tablespoon of sugar, milk and some flour. This first yeast-mixture should be still fluid. Cover and let rise in warm place for 20 minutes.

3 Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg and a good pinch of salt and mix with yeast mixture and flour. Knead with floured hands until dough is peeling away from the side of the bowl and blistering. This step may take 10 minutes (or more). Use some additional flour, if dough is too sticky. At the end you should have a smooth dough.

4 Cover and let rise in warm place for about 25 to 30 minutes or until dough has doubled.

5 Meanwhile prepare the plums. Cut lengthwise and pit them. Cut the still connected plum halves once again lengthwise, but do not cut through. You should have a depitted plum which you can easily flatten.

6 Grease backing tray. Dough is calculated for a baking tray of 11 3/4 x 15 inches.

7 Remove yeast dough from bowl, knead once or twice and roll out on baking tray using a floured rolling pin. Along the sides of the baking tray form a border with yeast dough.

8 Place plums on yeast dough in closely rows and press slightly into dough. Let rise again for 15 minutes.

    9 Preheat oven (425 F, 220 C).

10 Bake the plum cake in the middle of the oven for 20 to 25 minutes.

11 Meanwhile mix sugar and ground cinnamon for topping.

12 Remove plum cake from oven and sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon mixture. Cut into 20 pieces and serve warm or cold with whipped cream.

13 Baker's yeast: If possible use fresh baker's yeast. But you can replace it by 1 1/2 packages dry yeast.

14 Damson Plums: a traditional German Plum Cake is made with the slightly tart and not too juicy Damson Plums. You can also use other plum varieties, but the plums shouldn't be over-ripped or too juicy. I have tried it with other plum varieties and have reduced amount of sugar in topping.

15 German Plum Cake: in my opinion this cake has to be made with yeast dough. It takes more time to make than other doughs, but it is worthwhile. Don't be afraid of the juices. This cake has to be juicy!

16 There are existing several names for this type of frutit cake in Germany: Zwetschgenkuchen, Pflaumenkuchen and in Bavaria Zwetschgendatschi. Zwetschgen is the German name for Damson plums.
    Reply:Oxtail with wine

    INGREDIENTS

2 (750 milliliter) bottles dry red wine

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon garlic powder

    1 teaspoon onion powder

    salt and pepper to taste

5 pounds beef oxtail, cut into pieces

    1/2 cup butter, divided

    5 shallots, chopped

    5 cloves garlic, chopped

    1 onion, chopped

    2 carrots, chopped

    2 celery ribs, chopped

    2 sprigs fresh thyme

    1 bay leaf

    2 sprigs flat-leaf parsley

    5 cups beef broth

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).

Simmer the red wine in a large saucepan over medium-high heat until reduced by half. Meanwhile, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Dredge the oxtail in the seasoned flour, and shake off excess; set aside. Heat 2 tablespoon of butter in a roasting pan over medium-high heat. Brown the oxtail on all sides, about 10 minutes.

Remove the oxtails from the pan and set aside. Turn the heat to medium-low and melt another 2 tablespoon of butter in the pan. Stir in the shallots, garlic, onion, carrots, and celery. Cook and stir until the vegetables have softened, about 10 minutes. Stir in the thyme, bay leaf, parsley, beef broth, and reduced red wine. Place the browned oxtail on top of the vegetables in a single layer, then bring to a boil.

Cover with a tight fitting lid or aluminum foil, then bake in preheated oven until the oxtail is very tender and nearly falling off the bone, 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Once the oxtail is tender, remove the meat to a serving dish, cover, and keep warm. Strain the remaining braising liquid through a mesh strainer into a saucepan. Simmer over medium-high heat until the sauce has reduced to 2 cups. Whisk in the remaining butter and pour over the oxtail to serve.

Can I plant plum / fig trees if they have been bare rooted (exposed to elements) for 4 weeks? (Winter time)?

I am in Australia and it is winter time.

I have a plum and a fig tree that I bought commerically. They came with plastic bags around the roots. I opened the bags after I bought them intending to plant the trees immediately. However, that never happened and I ended up leaving them sitting like that in my backyard.

Will they survive or has it been too much for them? I realise they are dormant at this time of year (winter).

    Thanks,

Can I plant plum / fig trees if they have been bare rooted (exposed to elements) for 4 weeks? (Winter time)?
Are you kidding............................ A whole month, bare rooted, just laying, freezing their nuts off; How do they look? OK, I'll stop making fun! Take a knife blade, or something semi sharp, your finger nail, or even the edge of a coin and scrape the tree trunk about 2-inches. What does the inside of the slash look like? Is it green, and at all moist looking? Was it hard to scrape and dry inside? Any moisture at all? Tap that trunk with your implement, does it sound hard like Tap, tap,tap like hard wood, or soft, your call! go up, to the branches and give them a little scrape and resonating test, I think you will find they are hard and stick like, if so pitch it , it's history......Ahe good luck to u mate, Urlaroo to you too!
Reply:You can--but they have a high chance of dying if the roots got too dried out. Plant them anyway, give them lots of water and keep your fingers crossed.

How to grow plum trees from plum seed?

The plum trees which we buy in North America are usually grafted. The understock determines size hardiness etc. The Cambridge Gage grows on its own rootstock, which is an exception. Trees from seeds are mostly used for understock. The fruit of these trees does not have the high quality of the fruit grown in orchards, so I was told.

However should you want to go ahead with this experiment just use a stone of a very ripe plum. In the fall, bury it in your garden about 1 inch deep and keep the soil moist. In the past the squirrels planted all sorts of trees in my garden: walnuts, hazelnuts, oaks and apricots. So why not try planting the seed of a plum, it will be fun to watch what will develop.

How to grow plum trees from plum seed?
Yep. Getting the seed to germinate may be tricky as sometimes they need chilling before they will start.

Many modern fruit trees are grafted onto different root stocks to improve the fruit tree's ability to handle many different soils or for dwarfing purposes. So what grows from the seed may be somewhat different from a plum purchased at a garden center.

The chances the plum will be a hybrid of two different plum types is remote as most fruit is grown in orchards where there is but one variety. Not saying it can't happen...........

Need a recipe for fried shrimp wontons with herbs served with a plum sauce?

I had this appetizer at an thai-french fusion restaurant. It was fantastic! Thank you all for your help. And I also think the plum sauce may have had ginger in it? And it was not thick or syrupy. It was like the consistency of a vinaigrette. The sauce was light in color as well. Here is the website of the restaurant http://www.siris-nj.com/flash.htm.

I have a plum tree and there is a big hole in the side and its full of wood lice how do i get rid of them?

I wouldn't worry, woodlice only eat dead plant matter, not living tissue. Like maggots on animal flesh. The problem is what caused the decaying wood to start with? Plums are short lived with soft wood prone to disease and yours may have reached old age. Until you find the underling cause, I would leave them, they may be doing more good than harm. RScott

I have that exact same problem only mine is an apple tree. I have not managed to Find anything. you used to get this black tarry stuff that you painted on the branches after you pruned the tree and I think that would have done the job problem is a lot of stuff you can'#t get a hold of any more because of an EU ruling.

How long does it take for a plum tree to produce fruit?

It depends on the tree. Books I've read say 3 years. Trees I've bought and planted always have info that says 3 years.

I've bought 2 plums that put out fruit the year after I planted them, so that means 1 year. Not many fruit that first year, but a few. The second year with those same trees, and I had at least 50 plums per tree.

Plums produce fruit on the little gnarly side branchlets, and on one year old wood.

This web site says standard plum trees take three to five years. But it also has info on many different kinds of trees if you are interested.

Put it in a brown paper bag with an apple, and let it sit for a day or two in a cool dark place like in a cabinet etc.

The apple gives off a gas that will help other fruit to ripen. I know this sounds like an old wives tale, but it actually is true.

What can be done to ripen a store bought Plum quicker?
Put your unripened Plums in a paper bag on the counter for a couple of days. They should ripen nicely and be ready to eat. As fruit ripens it releases a natural hormone called ethylene. The paper bag traps this gas close to the fruit, thus ripening it more quickly, while still allowing some ventilation. But be careful -- your peaches and plums can go from rock hard to mush in a few days if you don't monitor them.

    Enjoy!
Reply:most fruits will ripen faster...tomatoes included wrapped in newspaper and put into a brown paper bag works well in just a couple of days
Reply:if you have a rice bin at home that can include the plums inside it, then just place it inside the container, with the rice of course, and it should ripen a lot faster than just leaving it on the counter.

If i'm wearing lilac eyeshadow with a plum accent shadow...what color should my lips be?

I would say like a mocha color. Something neutral that won't draw attention away from your eye color, but not too light for your complexion.

I use this stuff called SexyMotherPucker...they sell it at Target.

saw it advertised on tv. healthy drink suppose to be good for you.

A new drink called plum smart?
Plum Smart. You know what happens when you drink or eat a lot of plum right.

Lets just say take a newspaper with you to the bathroom. You will be there for a while.

Well I think its good when you are constipated.
Reply:Plum Smart isn't a new drink. They just put a new label on prune juice. Prune juice doesn't sound cool to buy, so they changed it. It's about time I think, because, how can you get juice from a dried plum. If that was the case, wouldn't grape juice be called raisin juice.
Reply:Ever heard of POM? Pomegranite juice? Everyone thinks it's sooo healthy for you, but what people don't know is this: Before it came out, pomegranite juice was virtually non-existant on the market. Then, a rich woman bought a run-down grape farm. She replanted it with pomegranites, and paid a lot of money to a team of "scientists" to "evaluate" it's health benefits. After the "findings", she marketed it as a new wonder-health drink for all of it's supposedly extraoridinary properties backed up by a "new study" done on pomegranites. The rest is history and now she's even richer. Yeah, I'll try it, but only because I like plums, not because of any hype and I won't put much stock in any so-called benefits from it either.

When a fruit tree (plum) fails to produce any fruit - why and what should be done to make it produce fruit?

If it is an old tree that's been neglected, try giving in a good prune.. I had a Victoria plum which was very sad looking thing, pruned it hard and the next year you could almost hear it smiling at the masses of fruit it produced.

When a fruit tree (plum) fails to produce any fruit - why and what should be done to make it produce fruit?
I think you need to plant another fruit tree, and they germinate or something. I know my neighbor just told me this, but I don't know why.
Reply:depends if the fruit tree is self pollinating or if it is a variety that requires another plum tree in the near vicinity to pollinate it. could be you got an ornamental plum that doesn't bear fruit. if possible, check with the place you bought it.make sure you fertilize and water regularly.
Reply:It also could be a bad year or no bee's pollinating enough or flower falling before pollination- Did you spray the tree for virus etc.
Reply:I happen to have plum trees in my yard that produce each year unless they are frosted out in spring. I have learned that you need to have both a male and a female tree for cross polination to take place. My neighbor has one of the same breed of tree but many years is tree has done absolutely nothing unless it happened to be cross polinated with one of my trees. So now each year we tie a moist blanket to a fourteen foot two by four and go out when all the flowers open and brush all three trees with the blanket and two by four to aid in the cross polination of his tree. It has worked so far. Hope this helps.
Reply:have you tried talking to it if it works for hrh then why not you
Reply:It needs another of the same variety or one that is known to cross pollenate with what you have

that you have an ornamental is unlikely

insects usually pollenate the trees but a little help is sometimes required
Reply:Plums are usually self pollinating so one tree shouldn't be a problem, i

Is it a young tree? It may be too young to produce fruit

Did you fertilize with Nitrogen? This produces leaves but not fruit

    hope this helped

Does anyone know if there is a sequel to The Body Of Christopher Creed by Carol Plum-Ucci?

This book was so awesome but I hope that there is a sequel!!

Does anyone know if there is a sequel to The Body Of Christopher Creed by Carol Plum-Ucci?
I'm sorry but there is no direct sequel to The Body of Christopher Creed. However, that was the first of several novels by Ms. Plum-Ucci, all of which would be worth exploring.

The Night My Sister Went Missing -- is probably the closest to the Creed book as it seems to be a solid crime novel and coming-of-age story.

What Happened to Lani Garver -- is another coming-of-age story but there is the possibility of a supernatural angle which may or may not be revealed at the end (sorry, can't spoil it for you).

The She -- is another mystery with a stronger possibility of a supernatural angle.

All of these have a mystery or crime as a central theme and a teenage being affected by it -- sometimes indirectly at first until their actions bring them to the forefront. Often the main character faces extreme pressure from the community or their peer group. And there is the ever present threat of violence throughout these stories. Try them and see if they don't ease the craving for a sequel.

Is there a practical functional use for peach, plum or cherry pits ? (other than growing fruit trees.)?

I think they are very hard but perhaps not as hard as walnut shells. How can they be chopped up into smaller "crumbs"? Do they have to be dried ? How dry ? Can this be speed up ?(Can anything be done with the seed inside in terms of cooking ?) I know that walnut shells are used in ladipary polishing and also in the oil drilling industry.

Is there a practical functional use for peach, plum or cherry pits ? (other than growing fruit trees.)?
The kernel from these fruits have a unique cherry flavor and nutty taste.

These pits are much harder and denser than walnuts. Walnuts have more and larger voids than these pits. The peach pits are the hardest and densest of the three.

If you dry them and crush them in roll mills - two hard surface rolling mills with clearances below the width of the pits should break open the case and you could extract the kernel by hulling vibrations to separate the kernel from the denser shell.

As any nut produces oil, these kernels produce oil and they should be tested for toxins and other materials present, which sometimes cause the kernel to be bitter.

I cannot say much about the shells they could be tested by water and alcohol extraction analysis. First Extract the seed shells with alcohol and analyze the extract for ingredients and repeat another fresh batch with a hot water extraction and test the extract for ingredients. This should give you and idea as what you could do with the shells.

They certainly make a good compost and natural fertilizer, by increasing the soils organic content.
Reply:Peach seeds (the "nut") contains strichnine a poison. I use cherry pits and plum seeds to sharpen my garbage disposal blades.
Reply:I have a lovely necklace made from very thinly sliced walnut shells (after the walnut inside is removed).
Reply:1. If you grind up a lot of peach kernels you can make a wonderful deadly poison that will kill you stone dead.

    2. you could make them into cute jewellery to give to the people you don't like.

    3. If you save enough of them you could use them to make a gravel path in your garden.

    4. If you pierce them and thread strings through them and hang them from the brim of your hat it will keep the flies off your face.
Reply:Here are some suggestions with what you can do with mashed, battered, karate chopped and grinded peach, plum and cherry pits (yes u will have to wash them first):

-decorative sprinkles on your mate's birthday cake (say its a special sort of nut...)

-dye all the bits black and sprinkle them at the shop/company you hate most eg. telstra and say they were your grandmother's ashes and she said she would like her ashes sprinkled there.

-dye the bits gold and give them to your daughter if you have one. say its magic fairy dust.
